UK Israel Business together with UJIA celebrate International Women’s Day

On Tuesday 8th March, UJIA Leeds celebrated International Womens Day in collaboration with UK Israel Business at MAZCC. We had an inspirational and esteemed panel of woman which included:

Noemie Lopian – Holocaust Educator & Campaigner, Host of Jewish Mother Me Podcast.

Noemie Lopian is the daughter of Holocaust survivors Dr Ernst Israel Bornstein and Renee Bornstein. Noemie lived in Germany until the age of 13 before moving to Manchester, England. She qualified as a GP and for the last few years has dedicated her time to educating and commemorating the Holocaust, continuing the legacy of her parents. Noemie travels up and down the country and abroad speaking to schools, universities, Judiciary, civil servants and cabinet offices.

Noemie has spent the last 3 years translating her father Ernst’s book Die Lange Nacht into the The Long Night.

Noemie and Renee’s story is featured in My Family, The Holocaust and Me with Robert Rinder and is available on BBC iPlayer

During the pandemic Neomie together with her friend Dr Lynn Dover set up a blood drive for the Jewish Stene Court community to donate blood as a thanks to the NHS.

Noemie Lopian, 55, a former GP, is married to Danny, a businessman. They have four children and five grandchildren.

Charlene Lyons CEO – Black Sheep Brewery, Director Lyons Consultancy

Charlene has a First-Class Honours degree and is currently the CEO of Black Sheep Brewery, a role she started in January 2020 after being invited onto the Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2017.

Charlene is a Management Consultant and founder of Lyons Consultancy, a company that works nationally across many business sectors to deliver various solutions from change management and business restructuring to business strategy and marketing engagement. In addition to private sector clients her work within the public sector to date has largely entailed governance restructure, support and evaluation and working with many boards of trustees. Charlene is passionate about education and is currently the Vice Chair of Governors at GSAL. Charlene is married to Ben and together they have three children. As a family, they enjoy socialising, holidays, sport, nice food and most importantly having fun.

Suzanne ManningSenior Hospitality Professional previously Senior Director – Special Events & Engagement – Europe Middle East & Africa at Hilton Worldwide

Suzanne is s highly accomplished and experienced sales and project management expert specialising in driving profitable growth in competitive sectors through proactive organisational transformation, strategic communications, event management and business development & processes. Respected as a motivational and inspirational leader capable of training and developing teams to enable them to fulfil their potential and add value to the business.

In March 2020 Suzanne, 58 at the time, received the life changing news that she had a serious heart condition and urgently needed a quadruple heart bypass. Suzanne underwent a quadruple heart bypass, just one week before the country went into the first national COVID lockdown. 11 months later after a completing her re-habilitation, Suzanne decided to set herself a challenge, walk 10,000 steps a day, for 28 days during the month of February 2021 for MacMillan Cancer. After a successful 28-year career working for Hilton Worldwide, Suzanne made the decision to take early retirement and has become an ambassador for MacMillan Cancer Support, a charity very close to her heart, having lost both her mother and sister-in-law to cancer 13, and 11 years ago respectively.
