On Thursday 18 October 2018, HE Ambassador Mark Regev, The Lord Rothschild OM, GBE and Sir Trevor Chinn CVO hosted an event to honour the outstanding and memorable achievements of the late Chaim Herzog, President of the State of Israel between 1983 and 1993, in the presence of Herzog’s four children; Isaac, Michael, Joel and Ronit, along with their spouses and children.
The event took place at Spencer House, St James’s Place and was attended by over 250 people from across the community, including previous Prime Minister, Tony Blair. Attendees heard from HE Ambassador Mark Regev, Lord Rothschild and Isaac and Michael Herzog on how Chaim Herzog made a lifelong commitment to serving the Jewish people, first as a solider, then as a statesman. Herzog’s words from 1975, “To question the Jewish people’s right to national existence and freedom is not only to deny to the Jewish people the right accorded to every other people on this globe” were reinforced. Guests were also shown a short film celebrating the life of Chaim Herzog.
The event was organised by UJIA and was supported by; The World Zionist Organisation, The Jewish Leadership Council, The Board of Deputies of British Jews, Labour Friends of Israel, Conservative Friends of Israel and The Jewish Agency for Israel.
