Israel Seventy North East Dinner
The Israel Seventy North East Dinner on Monday 29 October 2018, brought together UJIA supporters from across communities, launching the 2019 appeal.
UJIA North East Regional Manager, Alexa Harris asked guests to stand for a minutes silence in memory of the innocent victims of the Pittsburgh attack and to honour the memory of the lives lost.
In an evening that told the stories of seven individuals whose lives have been changed by UJIA, to celebrate 70 years since the founding of the state of Israel, the flagship communal event raised £217,000 for vital programmes in the UK and Israel. The ‘7 stories’ included recipients of UJIA programmes, who also surprised guests in attending the dinner in person.
Lt. Col. Peter Lerner (Res), Former IDF International Spokesperson, spoke about 70 years of defending the State of Israel, his perspective on the current security situation and the diaspora- Israel relationship. Guests also enjoyed a guest performance from Winner of Israel’s Got Talent, magician Tomer Dudai.
UJIA Leeds Chair Martin Harris told guests, “We were delighted by the success of the evening, launching our 2019 campaign and UJIA don’t take for granted the support we receive from our community”.
UJIA Regional Director, Eldan Kaye, said “I have seen the transformation that the Leeds Community has made on the Galil. We in the room need Israel as much as she needs us. Without that link our community is at risk. UJIA is exactly that, the link between our community and Israel. We need your support to create more stories to inspire a generation that risks an apathetic relationship with Israel and your community”.
