The Duke of Cambridge Visits The Equalizer Programme
On Tuesday 26 June The Duke of Cambridge met Jewish and Arab children at a football event in Jaffa, central Israel.
UJIA is the single biggest financial backer of The Equalizer Programme, which is also supported by the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the British Embassy in Israel. Since 2014, UJIA has donated £370,000 to The Equalizer, enabling 40 new leagues in northern Israel, reaching 998 more Jewish and Arab children.
The Equalizer project combines football training with extra academic support for disadvantaged children from diverse Israeli populations. This month, the initiative won the 2018 UEFA Foundation for Children Award.
UJIA Chief Executive Michael Wegier said: “We are incredibly proud to support The Equalizer Programme and to have brought such a vital project to northern Israel, where the population is almost equally split between Jews and Arabs. A visit by The Duke of Cambridge is a true honour and helps to showcase the important work of bringing together children from different communities, and supporting them through sport and education.”
