UJIA Leeds Women’s Lunch 2017
On Wednesday 21 June 2017, over 90 people gathered at the Etz Chaim Synagogue to hear from June Kenton, corsetiere to the Queen, at this year’s UJIA Leeds Women’s Lunch.
The event raised an amazing £16,000 for vital UJIA projects in Israel and the UK, in support of ‘Our Israel. Our Future.’
Guest Hillary Miller opened the event, telling the audience about her deep connection to Israel, and how it began; not as a child visiting Israel with her own family, but through her treks in the footsteps of the children of Israel, for Soviet Jewry.
It was here that she met June Kenton, who also participated in the treks across Israel, completing five in total.
June Kenton spoke to guests about how she also visited Russia with her husband Harold, to meet and take much-needed good to Refusniks. She spoke about the depth of her involvement with this charity work; a project that UJIA are familiar with due to previous focus on the absorption of Former Soviet Union citizens into Israeli society.
