Magic Moments
Communities across the UK welcome over 50 Israeli teenagers from the north of Israel.
A MAGICAL EXPERIENCE
UJIA Magic Moments has developed into one of UJIA’s flagship programmes. Each year, since 2003, Magic Moments delegates from the north of Israel spend one week in the UK living in our communities and educating about Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s commemoration day for fallen soldiers.
Communities across the country welcome over 50 Israeli teenagers aged 15-17 from the regions of Ma’ale Yosef, Merom HaGalil and Shlomi, all located along Israel’s northern border.
The teens spend the week leading educational sessions in schools and volunteering in their host communities. They also live with local families and get to know what life is like for Jewish teenagers in the Diaspora.
The highlight of the UJIA Magic Moments programme is the Yom Hazikaron ceremony, prepared and led by the Israelis, followed by a Yom Ha’atzmaut party. The Israelis and the host community share an emotional, memorable event.
“UJIA Magic Moments is a fantastic opportunity to build lifelong friendships with teenagers from the north of Israel and to learn about Israeli culture in a unique way. My personal experience of being involved has taught me so much – I can’t imagine my life without it.”
Natasha Grossman, aged 18, from Radlett, UJIA Magic Moments host family 2015
