Merom HaGalil Educational Programme
How a concerted, integrated educational strategy is transforming life-chances across a region.
Children growing up in Merom HaGalil do not have the kind of opportunities that other children take for granted. In this beautiful, but neglected corner of Israel, unemployment is high and school attainment is lower than in the centre of the country.
Moran grew up in Kiryat Ata near Haifa and moved to Merom Hagalil two years ago. But her husband walked out on her six months ago, leaving her alone with their five-year-old son, Eliav.
See in this moving video how their lives were transformed.
United Jewish Israel Appeal (UJIA) is leading the way in the regeneration of Merom HaGalil, beginning with a long-term comprehensive educational plan that will cover children from birth to young adulthood. It is raising the level of educational achievement in the area by giving teachers the tools to deliver quality education.
UJIA funded the creation of the Merom HaGalil Educational Campus, which acts as a regional hub that facilitates children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. It includes a recently upgraded primary school, an Early Childhood Centre and sports facilities. UJIA is also funding remedial programmes and educational enrichment for children and young people and is investing in building and renovating school buildings across the region.
"Eliav’s changed so much. It’s like they gave my son back to me."
