Supporting Israel

UJIA’s work in Israel is focused on reducing disadvantage and inequality and increasing social mobility for communities most in need.

For over 100 years UJIA has been building meaningful connections between young Jews in the UK and the people of Israel. Our programmes impact thousands of people in Britain and Israel every year.

Deepening Israel Connections

Beyond initial connection, we emphasise the importance of expressing the bond with Israel through support for Israels most disadvantaged communities.

UJIA’s primary vehicle for Israel-focused philanthropy is our innovative social impact fund Si3 (Social Impact Investment in Israel), our world-leading initiative that uses a cutting-edge approach to drive social change in Israel and creatively engage funders in the UK. Si3 has so far invested in 20 projects in urban regeneration, micro-finance and social businesses, all of which are successfully tackling stubborn social issues among Israel’s most vulnerable communities, including the Ethiopian, Bedouin, Druze and Haredi communities. Those loans are repaid so that the funds are recycled and reinvested in other social businesses and NGOs. Si3 is the most active Jewish community-led impact investment portfolio in the Israel ecosystem, and it is generating an evergreen pool of capital for social change.

UJIA’s day-to-day work radically changed after 7th October, even as we continued with our existing work.  Our team in Israel immediately addressed the immediate financial needs of survivors and then began supporting thousands of evacuated families with food and hygiene supplies. UJIA worked with local partners to establish temporary daycare facilities, pop-up schools, and playrooms for thousands of evacuees. And all of this is in addition to the thousands of hours of trauma support our support has made possible for those who experienced the atrocities of 7th October.

Now our work has shifted to helping communities in the South recover and rebuild, and helping the tens of thousands of men, women and children from Israel’s northern border who are still evacuated from their homes.

This work is all on top of our regular, ongoing work with partners across Israel that are working with Israel’s most vulnerable every day.
