Jewish Child’s Day fund created to secure long-term support for vulnerable Jewish children

Jewish Child’s Day (JCD), the UK’s leading grant giving Jewish children’s charity has announced a strategic development designed to safeguard its mission for generations to come.

Since the very first Jewish Child’s Day appeal in 1947, Jewish Child’s Day has existed with one clear purpose: to transform the lives of Jewish children in need, wherever they are.

Jewish Child’s Day (JCD) is entering a new chapter. To continue supporting the most vulnerable Jewish children long into the future – efficiently, responsibly, and sustainably – JCD will be moving from an active, staffed charity to a dedicated fund. From February 2026, JCD will no longer operate a staffed office or run events and campaigns. Instead, we are establishing the Jewish Child’s Day Fund: a future-focused fund designed to safeguard our grant-giving and maximise our impact.

This important change will maximise the impact of donations we receive in the future to ensure they are allocated to children and projects that need it most – and deserve it most.

To administer these grants efficiently and professionally, JCD will work with UJIA, who will manage the process under the guidance of a dedicated Jewish Child’s Day Grant Committee. The JCD Grant committee will be established under the management of UJIA, and contain both UJIA and JCD representatives

The JCD mission and values remain unchanged, and grants will continue to reach those who need it most. For almost 80 years, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the community, millions of pounds have been raised to fund essential initiatives – from special educational support in the UK, to equipping orphanages and chedarim across Europe, to most recently, providing urgent trauma and resilience programmes for young people in Israel following the events of 7th October 2023.

In the past 10 years, Jewish Child’s Day has made grants in excess of £8m to over 180 organisations across the world and has made a huge impact on the lives of countless children suffering from poverty, severe physical and mental health issues, supporting their education and wellbeing or suffering the consequences of war, terrorism or abuse.

Charles Spungin, Chairman of Jewish Childs Day said “Jewish Child’s Day has made a huge impact since our founding, and this new chapter will ensure that all of our donations can reach the projects we support. We are delighted to be working with UJIA, with whom we have already collaborated on the garden at Kibbutz Be’eri kindergarten. Under this pragmatic collaboration, our donors can be confident that we can maximise our impact in supporting the most vulnerable of our community.”

Zvi Noé, Chair of UJIA added: “The establishment of the Jewish Child’s Day Fund under UJIA’s management aligns closely with our mission and vision to empower young people in the UK and Israel. We must continue to play a meaningful role within the UK Jewish community, to ensure we maximise philanthropic funds and support a thriving Diaspora for future generations to come.”
