Supporting communities affected by 7th October
This is a very difficult time for Jews around the world. Particularly, those directly affected by the Hamas attacks on 7 October 2023 and our Israeli brothers and sisters. Being a Jew in the diaspora right now, is also fraught with challenges.
We believe in the power of Mitzvot and Tikkun Olam – healing the world. One way we can do this is by coming together as a community, with friends and family. Getting out and exercising is also extremely important for our physical and mental well-being. Taking a break from social media and getting some endorphins pumping around your body.
Bringing these strands together, we would like the community to come together to run, cycle, row, walk (whatever you like) an aggregate total of 3600km – the distance (as the crow flies) from the UK to Israel. Clearly, this is a sizeable challenge. So, we need your help to get as many people involved as possible.
How can you get involved?
Commit to a distance to cover. This can be running or walking outdoors, or on a treadmill, cycling outdoors or on a spin bike, using a cross trainer or rowing machine in the gym. Whatever you like. Even a combination of these. We would encourage you to do this with friends and/or family. Go out running, cycling or walking together. Or go to the gym together. Each individual should commit to a distance.
When will this take place?
The idea is that we all cover the km on Sunday 14 January 2024. If for any reason that is not possible, you can, of course, cover the km in advance.
How will we raise money?
For each km you commit to cover, we ask each participant raise £10.00/km. So, if you commit to run 10 km, each participant will ideally raise a minimum of £100 (10 x £10) and all donations will be doubled by our generous matchers.
What charity is this for?
Trauma Support: Healing Space for Nova Party Survivors.
Launched on October 8th, the Healing Space is an innovative trauma treatment initiative led by therapists and psychologists.
Specifically designed for survivors of the Nova party massacre and their first-degree relatives, it offers a unique approach catering to individuals less accustomed to traditional “talking therapy”, using a nature based integrative approach that harnesses the power of community.
To date, 3,000 people have benefitted from this programme , with some visiting the physical space at daily and others dropping in as needed. Immediate assistance is provided using creative mediums such as arts, music, and meditation, followed by referrals to additional mental health resources for those requiring further support.
A second site has now opened in Eilat, and plans are underway for a site in Jerusalem. Led by Professor Lia Naor and supported by volunteers, as they enter their second month, funds are needed to start to compensate volunteers and to cover operating costs to professionalize the operation.
